Room dividers are also known as screens or folding screen. Screens are originally from China and Japan, where they carry the name byobu which means “protection from wind.” The name suggests that the Japanese folding screens, which have up to 10 panels and can be a good 5m wide, were mainly used to shield the area from the wind.
